RECYCLING CENTER
NOW OPEN

The Village of Freeburg is pleased to announce the Recycling Center is open 7 days a week from 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. located adjacent to Village Hall. Please click on the link below which will show what items can and cannot be recycled. The recycling center is a single stream operation which means you do not have to separate your recyclable products.
In addition to the main recycling bin, separate paper recycling bins are provided. Please see the attached flyer which tells you what items can and cannot be recycled in the Paper. The items not accepted in the paper recycling dumpster can be placed in the main recycling bin. The Paper Recycling bin is one of many located throughout the Village of Freeburg and all proceeds will be distributed to the local schools.

FREEBURG FIRST!! PROGRAM - The Village of Freeburg Economic Development Committee and the Chamber of Commerce are working to bring you printable coupons that can be used at the participating businesses very soon.  From this section of the website, a link will be provided that will take you to a page that will have the active coupons for the month which can be printed off and used at the local businesses.  Thank you for your interest in the Freeburg First!! program.

222-1/2 Program:  In November, 2010, the Village of Freeburg Economic Development Committee kicked off the 222-1/2 Program which encourages local residents to select 2 businesses, preferably businesses they do not currently patronize, spend $20 per month at each business and save 2-1/2% on sales tax when compared to many restaurants and stores located in Belleville.

On average, $68 of every $100 spent at small businesses stays in the local community.  This helps businesses grow and prosper while creating additional jobs and providing more shopping opportunities.  This program does not ask residents to stop shopping at large chains, but to consider making some purchases locally.  These purchases benefit everyone.  First and foremost, they help local businesses to stay in business and continue to provide amenities to our residents.  Second, they provide and possibly increase shopping choices in our community.  Finally, it increases sales taxes, and hopefully income taxes, to allow the Village to provide services such as streets, sewers and police protection.

Census 2000 Data and Retail Trade Projections 1996

The U.S. Census of 2000 indicated that the Village of Freeburg has 3872 residents. This is a 28% population increase over the 1990 figure of 3115 residents.

In the fall of 1996, a special census and a related retail trade projection for the area was summarized by Equifax National Data Systems. The special census which was conducted and completed in 1996 shows the Village of Freeburg to have had 3,746 residents.

Those using this information should take note of the fact that the actual 1996 population census of 3,746 was 5% greater than that which had been previously projected for 2001.

(The remainder of this summary is based upon the 1996 census and report by Equifax National Data Systems.)

This quantified and certified calculated increase when applied to the five mile radius figures result in an increase from the 8,138 population to 8,887 and should increase the purchasing power of $65,668,000 to $71,709,456.

When we factor in only 20% of the other draw and commuter community population, this increases the purchase power to over $100 million.

Also, please note the 1990 traffic flow of 14,900 cars per day, which by IDOT appraisals has increased 20% and equals 17,800 cars per day.

The combination of present customer base, traffic flow and the continued growth, the area appears to be drawing numerous national and locally owned commercial businesses (i.e., Dairy Queen, Subway, Pizza Hut, McDonalds).

Retail  Trade Potential

Please note the retail trade potential for the 5.0 mile radius area is calculated to be as follows:

Type of Store Base Projection 9.2% Increased Projection
General Merchandise $11,578,000  $12,643,000
Apparel & Accessory $12,797,000  $13,974,324
Furniture $1,529,000    $3,044,496
Total All Stores $28,692,000   $31,331,488

The other apparel and accessory stores, furniture and general merchandise have little or no competition in the 5.0 mile radius.
